The Vector And M.I Should Not Have Ended (Here’s Why)

Published by on August 6th, 2021.

Hennesy took a lot from us when they did The Conversation that led to the end of Vector and M.I Abaga’s years-long battle for supremacy in the rap game.

The beef wasn’t just the most interesting that has happened in the rap game since forever, but also since then nothing interesting has happened. Why did it have to end that way?

M.I Abaga and Vector are two of the best Nigerian rappers of all time. When it comes to skillsets, they’re probably the only ones that have what it takes to go at each other. It was only right that the two dons clashed.

It started on Vector‘s first single about a decade ago when the Lagos rapper name-dropped Jude “M.I” Abaga, who was at the time the new big sound in town.

The bad blood between them did not however escalate until 2017 when M.I came out of a hiatus to diss every rapper in the game.

One thing led to another and by 2019, they were going off at each other on diss tracks. M.I went first, dissing Vector and Hennesy on his “Martell Cypher 2.” Then Vector clapped back with “The Purge,” with Payper and Vader.

When M.I didn’t reply and just kept tweeting, VEC had no choice but to do another diss track called “Tetracycling.” After that, M.I went into the booth and brought hell in the form of “The Viper.”

VEC replied with another track “Judas The Rat,” and that was kind of the end. But not really. What we witnessed in 2019 was legendary and we would never ever have something like that again.

So if Hennesy is gonna come in 2021 and take that away from us, they better have something iconic in-store. But they did end the beef with a three-episode documentary, and they didn’t give us anything more.

Since then, what we’ve got is a track, “Crown Of Clay” that wasn’t even as big as any of the diss tracks from either Vector or M.I. Disappointing, if you ask me.

The end of a decade-long beef is the end of an era, and it is a very significant event, especially in the rap game that is more often than not never talked about in the mainstream.

So it deserved a better ending than this. Or maybe it didn’t even have to end after all?

Let’s hear from you.
